“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.” Paolo Coelho, The Alchemist.
My plan for a life-long soulmate didn't work out first time round and sadly my marriage of 20 years ended 2 years ago despite my numerous efforts to save it. However, I believe that "life always offers us another chance - it's called tomorrow" and try to live my life accordingly. Maya Angelou famously said "be the rainbow in somebody's cloud" - I feel that's what the essence of great relationships is about.
I'm passionate about living a life I can look back on without regrets about wasted opportunities for connections with other people and growing as an individual myself. This encompasses my interest in spirituality, healthy living, travel, reading and theatre, inspirational music, as well as connecting with kindred spirits who light up my life with their presence, whether as friends, family or partners, in a way that only those who can see and understand us at the soul level can. Despite my slightly serious attitude, I also love having fun and indulge my inner child by dancing, spending time outdoors and acting silly when the mood strikes.
I am very expressive with my emotions and feelings and would appreciate someone who is equally unafraid to voice those, both in situations when the emotions are positive, as well as when there is some disagreement that needs resolving. Communication is truly the key. I value honesty, loyalty and emotional intelligence very highly, but dislike lying and cheating, racism and excessive materialism.
While some chemistry is essential to make things interesting and fun, I believe it's a person's character and emotional make-up that determine a long term success of a relationship to a larger degree. I am drawn to people who are warm and open, who uphold the old fashioned values of loyalty, honour, respect and have courage of their convictions, while also understanding that none of us are perfect and who are therefore able to be tolerant, patient and forgiving of their own and others' foibles and quirks.
I believe that we always meet people for a reason and while some just pass through our lives briefly teaching us various lessons or reminding us to enjoy this crazy ride, there are also some who stay the distance and become one of our tribe, either as friends, family or partners. Are you one of my tribe? There is only one way to find out.
I don't believe that true connections between people can be rushed or forced in any way, therefore mainly looking to make friends at this stage. But if friendship with someone would lead to a realisation we liked each other a lot more than that, I would be open to exploring that within a commited relationship in the future.
